Body Harmonics preserves the integrity of the original work of Joseph Pilates and the Pilates Method and includes current exercise and movement science, pedagogical best practices and somatic education to ensure your learning reflects what you need to be successful in a variety of settings.

We welcome all students with a passion for human movement, a desire to guide people towards their fitness goals, and an excitement for lifelong learning. A background in movement science or professional experience in the movement and exercise field is an asset, but not required.

Pilates Level 1: Mat (150 hours)

Pilates Level 1: Mat is a full Pilates Mat certification program that lays the groundwork for our Pilates Comprehensive Track. Over four modules, you learn the roots of Pilates, key human movement principles, as well as how to effectively teach 75 mat exercises—from the Body Harmonics Foundations to the advanced Pilates Classical repertoire. You also study and practice specific Body Harmonics teaching methodologies designed to help you teach Pilates in an accessible, adaptable and challenging way.

  • Explore the movement mechanics of the spine, hips and the shoulder complex

  • Gain an understanding of core stabilization systems and how to use this knowledge for teaching optimal movement

  • Master the complete Pilates mat repertoire

  • Practice the Body Harmonics teaching methodologies for effective cueing and exercise sequencing

  • Learn the art and science of versatile class design

Pilates Level 2: Reformer (300 hours)

Pilates Level 2: Reformer is the next step after you graduate from Pilates Level 1: Mat. Postural and functional assessments serve as the backdrop to more than 150 exercises and modifications performed on the Pilates reformer machine. You leave knowing how to teach functional and challenging reformer group classes and one-on-one sessions with skill and confidence.

Learning objectives

  • Learn the complete Pilates reformer repertoire

  • Know how to create exercise modifications and variations for all levels

  • Learn the art of versatile reformer class design

  • Start building posture and movement assessment techniques

  • Learn how to begin working with clients one-on-one

  • Deepen your knowledge of functional anatomy for the spine, upper and lower limbs

Pilates Level 1: Mat

Program of study

  • Module 1: Reformer Foundations (18 classroom hours)

  • Module 2: Reformer Intermediate (18 classroom hours)

Practice teaching (minimum 120 hours)

Completion of practice teaching hours is mandatory. Practice teaching involves conducting one-on-one reformer sessions with individuals who agree to act as practice clients.

Self-practice (minimum 50 hours)

Completion of self-practice hours is mandatory. The self-practice component consists of practicing on a reformer—on your own or with your peers. It will also include taking Pilates mat and machine classes at the location, where you are taking your program.
